His First Flight Class 10 English First Flight NCERT Notes and Summary
The young seagull sat alone on his ledge. Only the day before, his brothers and sister had already been able to fly. He tried. He ran forward and tried to flap his wings. But that was all he could do. As he feared his wings would not hold him up, he bent down and ran back to his little hole, where he slept at night. The wings of his brothers and sister were far shorter than his own, but he could not muster up courage to fly. No matter how taunted, scolded, or threatened his parents were, he was not going to fly away.
After giving up on him, his parents abandoned him on the ledge. The young seagull watched his parents teach his siblings how to fly, skim the waves and dive to catch fish. The whole family praised his older brother for catching his first herring. On the other hand, they scolded the young seagull for being cowardly. In the early morning hours of the morning, the young seagull began to feel hungry as the sun rose. As the young seagull had not eaten anything since the previous nightfall, he was unable to tolerate the hunger and the heat. By pretending to fall asleep on the edge of the ledge, he hoped to catch his family’s attention.
His mother was the only one who looked at him. The mother had picked a piece of fish and was flying across to him with it. The mother was very close to him with the fish in her beak, but did not offer it to him. In fact, she waited near the edge of the cliff to tempt him with the food. He took his first flight when the hungry seagull dived towards the fish and fell outwards and downwards into the cliff.
The young seagull was terrorised when he fell from the cliff. As his heart sank, he was unable to hear anything. He was afraid for a moment, but then realized he was flying with his wings spread outwards. He was no longer afraid of flying. When he landed on the green sea, his feet started sinking in water. As he had not eaten anything since the previous night, he was tired and weak and could not fly again. In the end, when he touched water, he began floating on it. All of his family members praised him and helped him eat his dog fish as a reward for his success.

The Black Aeroplane Class 10 English First Flight NCERT Notes and Summary
In his old Dakota DS 088, the pilot flew back to England through France. There was a clear starry night with a shining moon. The pilot was looking forward to spending his holidays with his family. It was 1:30 in the morning. At Paris Control, the pilot gave details about his location and requested instructions for the destination of England. He was advised to turn 12 degrees west by the Paris Control Room.
Paris was 150 kilometres behind him. A storm cloud stood in front of him. It resembled a black mountain. He could not avoid flying over it. He did not have enough petrol to fly around the north or south. He thought of going back to Paris but he wanted to go home for breakfast.
He decided to risk flying through the deadly storm, but his judgment went wrong. As soon as he entered the clouds, his aircraft spun and whirled. When his compass stopped working, other equipment went dead as well. He also failed to contact Paris Control Room. His radio had also gone dead and he got lost in the storm after trying to contact them.
After getting lost in the storm, he suddenly saw another aeroplane flying next to him. He could see the pilot’s face. He was glad to see someone else. “Follow me”, he waved his hand. The narrator followed him like an obedient child.
After following the black aircraft pilot for about half an hour, Dakota realized that he could only continue for about five to ten minutes as his second and last tanks were running low. Suddenly, he saw the runway. He was relieved to be out of the storm safely. The pilot became petrified as he saw the ‘two straight lines of light.’ It was the runway.
Upon landing, he went to the control tower and asked the lady there where he was and who was the other pilot. She laughed at him strangely and said that there was no other plane flying that night. She could only see his plane on the radar. How did the narrator reach the destination without a compass, radio, or fuel left in his tanks? The mystery remained a mystery.

There was no sight of anything outside the plane. However, the writer noticed a black aeroplane very near him. Its pilot waved to the writer to follow him.
The writer kept following the black aircraft. He landed safely when he finally emerged from the dark storm. The other aeroplane had disappeared in the sky.
He walked to the control room to find out who that other pilot was. There was no other plane in the sky that night, the woman told him. “On the radar, yours was the only plane I could see”.
