1. Who is the Tiger King? Why does he get that name?

Solution

Pratibandapuram’s ruler was known as the Tiger King. He got the name since he had only ever thought about tigers his entire life. He had no concern for his people. The killing tigers was his sole objective. He had already killed 70 tigers in his kingdom, and in order to kill more, he married a girl from a state with a significant tiger population.

The royal child grew taller and stronger by the day. The boy drank the milk of an English cow. An English nurse raised him. An Englishman taught him English. He only watched English movies. He was twenty years old when he became King of the State.

Before the king of Pratibandapuram can kill one hundred tigers, the prophet dies. It seems like the king’s only goal is to show that his predicted is wrong. Everything else is less important to the king than killing a hundred tigers.

I don’t think the prophecy was proven to be indisputably disproved because the Maharaja wasn’t killed by the hundredth tiger. No one would have thought that the hundredth tiger, which looked weak, old, and almost dead, would have dodged the king’s bullet by passing out when the bullet went by. Tiger King died because of the “tiny little wooden tiger” from the toy store.

The story is indeed a satire on the arrogance of people in power. This thought has been represented by the Tiger King. The astrologers tell him that a tiger is going to kill him. After the king kills a tiger, he feels very proud of himself. He calls the state astrologer and asks proudly, “What do you say now?” The astrologer says in a humble way, “Your Majesty may kill ninety-nine tigers the same way, but you must be very careful with the hundredth tiger.” The proud king says he won’t do anything else until he kills a hundred tigers. Even after killing ninety-nine tigers, which was a massive , the king’s gun missed the hundredth tiger. He doesn’t know this, so he dies because of a “tiny little wooden tiger” and not because of a real, dangerous animal like a tiger. At the end of the story, when the readers realize what the king never does, the dramatic irony is very clear.

2. What is the author’s indirect comment on subjecting innocent animals to the willfulness of human beings?

In the story, the author uses satire of the way tigers are killed without any reason. The way the Tiger King acts is a subtle comment on how cruel and heartless this person is. The astrologers had only predicted that the king’s death will come from a tiger. Instead of staying away from tigers and keeping himself safe, the king goes hunting and kills the tigers in his land. He kills so many that there are no more tigers in his kingdom’s woods. By the time the king died, all tiger species had died out in the state of Pratibandapuram and in the state where his wife was born. At last, the dewan has to set up for the king to kill an old tiger. The old tiger kneels before the king, but the king doesn’t feel sorry for him. He aims carefully and shoots. So, the author shows how stupid, cruel, and selfish people are when it comes to how they treat innocent animals.

3. How would you describe the behaviour of the Maharaja’s minions towards him? Do you find them truly sincere towards him or are they driven by fear when they obey him? Do we find a similarity in today’s political order?

The Maharaja’s minions are not at all honest with him. They seem to be self-centered, weak, and complete idiots. They don’t make any sense. They only do what they do because they are afraid. The way the dewan acts makes it clear. When the Maharaja says that he wants to get married, the stupid dewan thinks that the king wants to marry him and make him his wife. When the Maharaja says he wants a tiger, the foolish dewan thinks the king wants to marry a tiger. When the king can’t find the hundredth tiger, the dewan’s fear becomes clear. In a fit of rage, he tells the dewan to leave his job. In order to calm his fears, the dewan gets an old tiger from the Madras People’s Park. He transports the animal within his vehicle to the woodland area, with the intention of facilitating the king’s hunting activity. All of this shows that the king’s people were stupid and scared. The relationship between the Tiger King and his minions shows how our government works now. The people who work for our politicians are just like the king’s dewan.

4. Can you relate instances of game-hunting among the rich and the powerful in the present times that illustrate the callousness of human beings towards wildlife?

In recent years, there have been some occurrences of game-hunting observed within the affluent and influential segments of society. There have been allegations regarding the engagement of a prominent film actor in a hunt of a deer belonging to a species that is protected under conservation regulations. Subsequent accounts emerged regarding the alleged involvement of a former nawab in illicit activities related to the pursuit of wildlife.

5. We need a new system for the age of ecology – a system which is embedded in the care of all people and also in the care of the Earth and all life upon it. Discuss.

Solution

To protect and keep the balance of nature at both the national and foreign levels, we need a new system that takes care of not only all people but also the Earth and all life on it. Every living thing in an ecosystem goes through a circle of being born, having babies, eating, and being eaten. “The balance of nature” is the name for this cycle . It keeps things pretty stable in neighborhoods. When this balance is upset because a species grows or shrinks a lot, hunger or disease start to happen. This is what is going on in the world right now. Because the number of people has grown so much, our natural resources, forest wealth, and wildlife are all disappearing very quickly. The biggest threat to all life on Earth is now global warming. So, it’s more important than ever to come up with a new system that can take care of all people and all life on Earth.
