Traditionally, water harvesting is performed by local canal irrigation systems known as kulhs in hilly areas like Himachal Pradesh. The water from streams is diverted into man-made channels that distribute it to various villages. The water in these kulhs is managed by a common agreement between all villages that share it. It also seeps into the soil and helps raise the water table.

Forests can be managed and conserved in the best way possible when joint forest management committees (JFM) are formed by representatives of the Forest Department and local people. For centuries, the local people have been using the forests and have developed practices that not only benefit them, but also benefit the forest and the wildlife within those forests. A long-term conservation effort can be achieved through the wisdom of the local people.

(b) Water Resources: We should stop wasting water in our day- to-day lives and cultivate water-saving habits.
(c) Coal and Petroleum: By practicing the three Rs, saving all forms of energy, using fluorescent lighting, turning off unnecessary electronic devices, walking instead of driving, and using stairs instead of lifts, we can conserve coal and petroleum.
