Standing Group of Secretaries Constituted on Resolving E-commerce Issues: Piyush Goyal
- On June 21, 2019 Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal stated that a Standing Group of Secretaries (GoS) has been constituted for ensuring inter-ministerial coordination on resolving issues related to e-commerce.
- Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha that a draft national e-commerce policy has been drafted and placed in public domain.
- This policy addresses broad areas of the e-commerce ecosystem such as infrastructure development, market places, regulatory issues, stimulating domestic digital economy and export promotion through e-commerce.

- The 7th Foreign Office Consultations between India and Brunei Darussalam was held on 24th June, 2019 in New Delhi.
- The Indian side was led by Smt. Vijay Thakur Singh, Secretary(East) and Brunei side was led by Mrs. Hajah Siti Norishan Haji Abdul Ghafor, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Brunei Government.
- The consultations provided an opportunity to review the entire gamut of bilateral relations, including political, trade and investment, defence, cultural and people to people contact.
- The two sides also exchanged views on regional and multilateral issues.

Russia extends ban on EU Food Imports till December 31, 2020
- On June 24, 2019, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree to extend the ban on food imports like meats, dairy products, fruits and vegetables from the European Union (EU) till December 31, 2020.
- Moscow in August 2014 banned most food imports from the European Union, the United States and other countries after they imposed sanctions over its annexation of Crimea and support of east Ukraine’s separatists.
- The Western sanctions, as well as Moscow’s own embargo, have affected the Russian economy, pushing up food prices but also giving a boost for some domestic producers.

According to FIEO, improvement in logistics, infrastructure will boost exports to $1 trillion in next 3 years
- Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) has estimated that the focus of the government to improve logistics, ease of doing business and modern trade infrastructure will boost exports of the country from current $535 billion to $1 trillion in the next 3 years.
- Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) President Ganesh Kumar Gupta said India has huge potential to boost its exports of goods and services from the current $535 billion.
- Reduction of logistics cost by 10 per cent will help boost the country’s exports by about 5-8 per cent.

IOC suspends Olympic status from AIBA
- On June 26, 2019, International Olympic Committee (IOC) suspended the Olympic status from the International Boxing Association (AIBA) and took over the responsibilities of the qualifying and final tournaments for the 2020 Tokyo Games.
- AIBA has been facing a number of problems, including allegations of unfair refereeing and murky finances.
- The IOC has now decided to set up a special task force to play a major role in boxing at the 2020 Tokyo Games.

In Arunachal, New tortoise species have been discovered
- A team of herpetologists from the Forest Department and two NGOs (Non-Government Organization)-Help Earth & Turtle Survival Alliance (TSA) discovered two (one male and female) new species of tortoise In Yazali area of the Lower Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh.
- The species is called Manouria impressa (Impressed Tortoises ) because of the ‘impressive’ orange-brown to dark brown patches on its carapace.

Indigenously developed nuclear-capable missile Prithvi-II test fired successfully
- India test-fired indigenously developed nuclear-capable missile Prithvi-II as part of a user trial by the Army from a test range off the Odisha coast.
