Pooja Desai from Gujarat crowned as Mrs India 2019

  • On September 25, 2019, Pooja Desai from Vadodara, Gujarat has been crowned as Mrs India – Pride of the Nation 2019 (a beauty pageant for married women that celebrates and admires the accomplishments and achievements of a wife, daughter and a mother) in grand finale at The Leela Ambience Gurgaon, Haryana.
  • She is the first from Gujarat to win this title.

Kristalina Georgieva named as IMF chief

  • The International Monetary Fund formally selected Kristalina Georgieva of Bulgaria as the IMF MD.
  • She will succeed Christine Lagarde. Kristalina was previously the CEO of World Bank.

SBI launched digital banking app YONO in UK

  • State Bank of India (SBI) has launched its digital banking app YONO in the UK, marking its global launch.
  • SBI Chairman Rajnish Kumar unveiled the app at an exclusive event hosted in coordination with the UK India Business Council.

  • Reliance Industries’ Chairman Mukesh Ambani has topped the list of richest Indians according to the latest IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List.

India’s former athlete PT Usha honoured with Veteran Pin by IAAF in 52nd IAAF Congress in Doha, Qatar

  • On September 25, 2019, Indian track and field former athlete PT Usha was presented with Veteran Pin by the world athletics governing body, the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF), in recognition of her contribution to the growth of sport.
  • The award was given by IAAF chief Sebastian Coe at the 52nd IAAF Congress held in Doha, Qatar.

Pankaj Advani-Aditya Mehta pair wins World Team Snooker title

  • The Indian duo of Pankaj Advani and Aditya Mehta has won the IBSF World Snooker Team title at Mandalay, Myanmar.
  • The Indian pair beat Thailand’s team comprising C.Pongsakorn and D.Poramin.

A 16-year-old Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg wins 2019 Right Livelihood Award

  • Swedish teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg was named as one of four winners of the 2019 Right Livelihood Award, known as Sweden’s alternative Nobel Prize.
  • Thunberg won the award “for inspiring and amplifying political demands for urgent climate action reflecting scientific facts.

UK mathematician Adam Harper wins the 2019 SASTRA Ramanujan prize

  • On September 25, 2019 mathematician and assistant professor of the University of Warwick, England, Adam Harper, from the United Kingdom(UK) won the SASTRA Ramanujan prize for 2019.
  • He will be awarded with a citation and an award of $10,000.

Amitabh Bachchan unanimously selected for Dadasaheb Phalke award 2019

  • On September 24, 2019 the Union minister of information and broadcasting Shri Prakash Javadekar announced that Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan was selected for the 2019 Dadasaheb Phalke award which is the highest award in Indian cinema.
  • It is conferred to a person for his/her lifetime achievement in cinema.

PV Sindhu named as brand ambassador of Visa for 2 years

  • Payment technology company Visa announced that it has signed up world badminton champion Pusarla Venkata Sindhu (PV Sindhu) as its brand ambassador for two years.
  • Besides promoting the brand through advertising campaigns, Sindhu has also become an athlete member of Team Visa for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.

NASA successfully launches RamanSat 2, a miniature satellite made by Indian student Aabhaas Sikka

  • NASA successfully launched the RamanSat 2 miniature satellite designed by 17-year-old student Aabhaas Sikka on Monday night.
  • The satellite was developed by Sikka during his internship with SPACE India with help from SPACE Group Founder and CMD Sachin Bahmba along with the company’s research team.

An active mountain skier, Davo Karnica of Slovenia passes away

  • Davo Karnicar of Slovenia , the 1st person who ski down Mount Everest on October 7, 2000, has passed away in the tree cutting accident in his mountainous home region of Zgornje Jezersko, in northern Slovenia.
  • He was 56.

Actress Madhuri Dixit appointed as a goodwill ambassador for Maharashtra Assembly polls

  • Maharashtra’s Chief Electoral Office appointed Indian actress Madhuri Dixit as a goodwill ambassador for Maharashtra Assembly polls to create awareness among people about the importance of voting which are scheduled to be held on October 21, 2019.
  • She will be seen in a video titled ‘Let’s Vote’.

‘Professor Ayushman’ comic book released by Ayush Ministry in New Delhi

  • On September 24, 2019, a new comic book series ‘Professor Ayushman’ conceived by the National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB) was unveiled by the Ayush ministry in New Delhi.
  • This book will raise awareness in children about the importance of medicinal plants and their usage.
