CPWD constituted a 7 member core group for the implementation of vision document

  • The Central Public Works Department (CPWD), which comes under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), constituted a seven-member core group chaired by Additional Director General (training & research) M K Sharma to prepare a roadmap for implementation of a five-year “vision document” (STVD) as directed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
  • The other members of the group are C K Verma, lndu Gural Chaudhary, Harish Kumar, Naimuddin, Manish Kumar and Rajesh Kumar.

UAE launches UN-developed anti-money laundering platform

  • The UAE has become the first country in the Gulf to launch a new reporting platform named ‘goAML’ developed by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.
  • It is a one-step solution launched to crack down on organised financial crimes.
  • The UAE has been tightening its financial regulations to fight the perception among some foreign investors that it is a hot spot for illicit funds due to its free trade zones and geographic proximity to Iran.

Nepalese nationals must have a visa to enter India via Pakistan, China, Hong Kong and Macau

  • The Nepalese Embassy in New Delhi issued a notice stating that Nepalese nationals must have a visa if they are entering India from Pakistan, China, Hong Kong, and Macau.
  • This was done to increase security in the country.
  • Similarly, Nepalese nationals travelling to Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain and Lebanon, are required to acquire No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the respective Nepalese Embassies.

RBI launches CMS for filing online complaints against banks, NBFCs

  • RBI launched the Complaint Management System for lodging complaints against banks & NBFCs with a view to improving customer experience in timely redressal of grievances.
  • Also, RBI plans to introduce an IVR system for tracking the status of complaints.
  • The Complaint Management System (CMS) is a software application to facilitate RBI’s grievance redressal process.
  • Customers can lodge complaints against any regulated entity with public interface such as commercial banks, urban cooperative banks, Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs).

Number of wilful defaulters has surged 60% in 5 years

  • Government of India stated that the number of wilful defaulters has risen 60% in the 5 years up to FY19, but over ₹ 7600 Cr has been recovered from these defaulters.
  • The total number of wilful defaulters stood at 8,582 at the end of FY19, against 5349 at the end of FY15.
  • Sitharaman informed the Lower House that public sector banks (PSBs), till March 31, 2019, had filed suits for recovery in 8,121 cases.

Indian women’s hockey team won FIH Series 2019 by beating Japan

  • On June 23, 2019, Indian Women’s Hockey team won the FIH ( Fédération Internationale de Hockey) Women’s Series Finals Hiroshima 2019 after defeating the host Japan by 3-1 in the finals held at the Hiroshima Hockey Stadium, Japan.
  • Captain Rani Rampal gave India the lead in the 3rd minute before drag-flicker Gurjit Kaur struck twice (45th and 60th minutes) late in the match to set up the win.
  • Kanon Mori scored the lone goal for Japan in the 11th minute.

  • Federer, 37, beat Goffin 7-6 (7/2), 6-1 to secure his 102nd career singles title and remain unbeaten on grass so far this season.
  • The Swiss star is chasing a ninth Wimbledon crown in London next month as he looks to extend and defend his record of 20 career majors.

India scraped $500 mn arms deal with Israel

  • India scraped $500 million arms deal with Israel for the purchase of Spike anti-tank missiles from defence contractor Rafael Advanced Defence Systems.
  • This was done after Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) claimed that it could deliver an alternative with a partnership with VEM technologies Ltd within two years.
  • The deal was initially struck in 2014, and Rafael Advanced Defense Systems had begun preparations to fulfill the order of 8,000 Spike missiles.
