  • The Road Transport and Highways Ministry has notified the ion of the item Quadricycle as a non-transport vehicle, under the Motor Vehicles Act 1988.
  • A Quadricycle is a vehicle of the size of a 3-wheeler but with four tyres.
  • It is fully covered like a car and has an engine like that of a 3-wheeler.

Government decides to set up domestic Gold Council in India

  • Union Commerce and Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu inaugurated the 2nd Edition of India Gold and Jewellery Summit in New Delhi on November 23, 2018.
  • During the Summit, he informed that the Centre has decided to set up domestic Goal Council of India to promote to growth of the sector and boost exports of jewellery.
  • The labour-intensive jewellery sector contributes about 14% to the country’s overall exports. India is the largest importer of gold.

12th World Congress on Mountain Medicine begins in Kathmandu

  • 12th World Congress on Mountain Medicine started in Kathmandu, Nepal.
  • The biennial event mainly focuses on science and research aspects of high-altitude medicine.
  • The theme of Congress is “Mountain Medicine in the Heart of the Himalayas”.
  • It will also include practical workshops related to trekking, expedition medicine and clinical education.
  • The flagship event of the International Society for Mountain Medicine (ISMM) is being held first time in Nepal and hosted by Mountain Medicine Society of Nepal (MMSN).

SEBI Unveils Rules For Reclassification Of Promoter As Public Investor

  • Markets regulator Security and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has come out with new rules for re-classification of a promoter as a public investor, wherein an outgoing promoter will have to relinquish special rights as well as control over the affairs of the listed firm and not be allowed to hold over 10% stake.
  • Besides, the promoter would not be allowed to have any representation on the board of directors or act as a key managerial person in the listed entity.
  • Furthermore, the promoter seeking re-classification must not be a wilful defaulter or a fugitive economic offender.

Mary Kom Wins Sixth World Championship Title, Creates History

  • MC Mary Kom has created history by becoming the first woman to win six boxing world titles by clinching the 48 kg gold at the 2018 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in New Delhi.
  • The 35-year-old Indian legend got the better of Ukrainian Hanna Okhota in the summit clash.
  • 16 years after winning her maiden World Championship – and eight years since her last – Mary overtakes Ireland’s Katie Taylor as the first female boxer to win six gold medals, and becomes only the second pugilist ever (male or female) to achieve the feat after Felix Savon.

  • The Mexican government has honoured Indian academician Shyama Prasad Ganguly (first Indian Academician) with ‘Orden Mexicana del Águila Azteca’ (Mexican Order of the Aztec Eagle), the highest civilian honour given to a foreigner by Mexico.
  • He was awarded for disseminating Spanish language and Mexican culture to strengthen Mexico-India cultural relations.
  • Gaguky is the former professor of Spanish and Latin American Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).

  • Senior IAS officer Vijay Kumar Dev (1987 batch from AGMUT cadre) has been appointed as the chief secretary of Delhi
  • He replaced Anshu Prakash (transferred last week as the additional secretary of the Department of Telecommunications).
  • Earlier, Mr. Dev has served as the chief election officer of Delhi.

IMD develops technology to monitor impact of rain

  • The India Meteorological Department (IMD) developed a new technology to assess the rise of water level in rivers and reservoirs by rain.
  • The technology, called ‘Impact Based Forecasting Approach’, which shows pre-event scenario, can help state governments to minutely monitor the impact of rain and take real-time decisions.
  • IMD was founded in the year 1875 and is under the administrative control of Ministry of Earth Sciences. Its current DG is Dr K J Ramesh.

  • Classical music stalwart Ustad Imrat Khan (83-years) passed away in the US after a brief illness.
  • Khan dedicated his life to propagating the Sitar and the surbahar worldwide.
  • Imrat Khan famously turned down the Padma Shri last year saying the recognition had come too late and diminished his achievements.

Former Indian Hockey Player Sandeep Michael Passes Away

  • Former Indian hockey player, Sandeep Michael, who captained the Indian junior team to a gold at the Asia Cup 2003, died at the age of 33 after battling an unspecified neurological problem.
  • In 2001, he made his debut for the country as a junior in the Under-18 Asia Cup at Ipoh in Malaysia under Jugraj Singh.
  • Michael found fame at the senior level in a tournament in Australia in 2003.
