  • The 6th edition of Yuva Natya Samaroh, a theatre festival of five young directors, was started in New Delhi on 22 December 2018.

Odisha govt announces ₹10,000 crore KALIA scheme for farmers' development

  • Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday announced a ₹10,000-crore scheme for the overall development of farmers in the state.
  • The development programme is named Krushak Assistance for Livelihood and Income Augmentation (KALIA), which will provide farmers with ₹10,000 a year at the rate of ₹5,000 each for Kharif and Rabi season.
  • Additionally, crop loans of up to ₹50,000 will be interest-free under the scheme.

Union Minister Suresh Prabhu confers Skoch Golden Jubilee Challenger Award

  • Commerce and Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu has conferred the Skoch Golden Jubilee Challenger Award at the 55th Skoch Summit in New Delhi today.
  • The Skoch Challenger Awards are the highest independently instituted civilian honours.
  • The Commerce and Industry Minister was awarded for his contribution to reforms, particularly in the power sector reforms.

15th Global SME Business Summit in New Delhi

  • The 15th edition of a two day Global SME Business Summit was organised by the Ministry of MSME and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in association with Government e-marketplace in New Delhi.
  • The theme of the event was ‘Building Partnerships through Global Value Chains.’
  • The agenda of the summit was to bring together renowned speakers with unbounded experience and expertise, a global audience, and various national and international SME stakeholders to integrate Indian MSMEs into the Global Value Chains (GVCs).

GST Council Cuts Rates on 23 items, Rationalises 28% Slab

  • The GST Council cut rates on 23 commonly used goods and services, including TV screens, movie tickets and power banks.
  • Now, the 28 per cent slab is restricted to only luxury and sin goods, apart from auto parts and cement, tax rates on which could not be cut due to the high revenue implication.
  • GST on movie tickets costing up to ₹ 100 was cut to 12 per cent from 18 per cent, while tickets over ₹ 100 will attract 18 per cent tax, against 28 per cent earlier. This will have a revenue implication of ₹ 900 crore.

NABCB Accreditation Secures Recognition in Asia-Pacific Region

  • The National Accreditation Board for Certification Bodies (NABCB), India’s national accreditation body, has secured equivalence for its accreditation programme for Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems (OHSMS) Certification Bodies in Asia- Pacific region.
  • Any industry carrying ISO 45001 certificate with NABCB logo will be recognized in the Asia Pacific region.
  • NABCB, a constituent Board of the Quality Council of India, is responsible for accreditation of certification/inspection bodies as per applicable international standards under an international system of equivalence.

Rajeev Mehta appointed as President of SAFF

  • Rajeev Mehta was appointed as the President of the South Asian Fencing Federation (SAFF) for a four-year term.
  • At present, he is the president of Fencing Association of India (FAI).
  • He is also the secretary general of the Indian Olympic Association.
  • FAI secretary general Bashir Ahmed Khan will also hold a similar post at the South Asian Fencing Federation

  • LinkedIn, the world’s largest professional network announced the appointment of Mahesh Narayanan as Country Manager for India.
  • He will assume the office from January 7, 2019.

Logistics Development Committee constituted

  • The Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM) constituted a Logistics Development Committee under the Chairmanship of Dr. BibekDebroy, Chairman EAC-PM.
  • The committee was tasked to assess key challenges in logistics development and associated commerce and suggest policy reforms for ease of doing trade in India.

CDSCO issues safety guidelines for Isotretinoin

  • The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has issued safety guidelines for Isotretinoin, an oral drug, which is used in the treatment of severe acne.

  • Isotretinoin capsules of 10 mg/20 mg were approved by CDSCO in 2002 for the treatment of cystic and conglobate acne.

NBCFDC Signs MoU with BSE institute Ltd.

  • A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between National Backward Classes Finance and Development Corporation (NBCFDC) and BSE Institute Ltd.
  • The MoU will facilitate skill development training and upgradation of technical and entrepreneurial skills for the target group of NBCFDC.

Assamese singer Dipali Barthakur passed away

  • Legendary Assamese singer Dipali Borthakur breathed her last in a city hospital on 21st December 2018.
  • She was 77.
  • Popularly referred to as the “Nightingale of Assam”, Borthakur had been suffering from a motor neuron disease for the last four decades.
