ADB President Mr. Takehiko Nakao pledges over $12 Billion to India in support of New Flagship Initiatives

  • The Asian Development Bank (ADB) committed $12 billion to the government’s new flagship initiatives like piped water for all and road safety over the next three years.
  • The Prime Minister and Nakao discussed how to further enhance partnership in areas like promotion of new technologies and innovation, renewable energy, solar-pump irrigation, electric vehicle and battery, fintech, sustainable tourism, and recycle of plastic.

  • Former Cabinet Secretary PK Sinha has been appointed as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
  • Sinha, a 1977-batch IAS officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre, superannuated as Cabinet Secretary and was succeeded by Rajiv Gauba.

‘Ghaznavi’ surface-to-surface ballistic missile test fired by Pakistan

  • On August 28, 2019 the Pakistan army successfully test fired its 290km range surface to surface(SSM) name “Ghaznavi” during its night training launch.
  • The missile was launched from Sonmiani flight test range of Balochistan and is developed by National Development Complex (NDC) which is a missile developer for Pakistan army headquartered at Fatehjang, Punjab (Pakistan).

Banking license of Rupee Cooperative Bank extended by RBI till Nov 30, 2019

  • Apex bank of the country, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) extended the banking license of Rupee Cooperative Bank Ltd till November 30, 2019.
  • The Bank has paid Rs.338.20 crores to 85,462 needy depositors under hardship scheme of RBI and it has deposits of Rs.1291.00 crores.

Government to Merge Ten Public Sector Banks into Four

  • FM announced following merger- Punjab National Bank, Oriental Bank of Commerce & United Bank together (2nd Largest); Canara Bank and Syndicate Bank (4th Largest) ; Union Bank will be merged with Andhra Bank and Corporation Bank(5th Largest).
  • In place of 27 public sector banks in 2017, now there will be 12 public sector banks after the latest round of consolidation of PSU banks.

RBI extends deadline for PPIs to become full KYC complaint

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) extended the timeline for the conversion of minimum detail Prepaid Payment Instruments to KYC-compliant PPIs from 18 months to 24 months.
  • Payments Council of India (PCI) welcomed the move.

Kerala all-rounder Jalaj Saxena has become the 1st Indian cricketer to sets rare record in Indian first-class cricket history

  • Jalaj Saxena (32), an Indian cricketer who plays as an all-rounder for Kerala has set a big record in first-class cricket.
  • Saxena took 3 wickets for India Blue with which he completed his 300 wickets in first-class cricket. With this, he became the only cricketer to score 6000 runs in first-class cricket, as well as 300 wickets and still not have played for Team India.

CBDT Chairman P C Mody’s tenure extended by the Govt.

  • The Appointment Committee of Cabinet (ACC) headed by the Prime Minister(PM), has given its approval to extension/reappointment of Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) chairman Pramod Chandra Mody for an additional period of 1 year.
  • According to the order, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved “re-appointment” of Mody for a period of one year.

  • According to Forest Development Corporation of Maharashtra Limited (FDCML), the Government of Maharashtra has already issued its Government Resolution, for establishing International Standard Zoo and Rescue Centre at Gorewada village, Nagpur District on 1914 hectares of Forest Land through FDCML.

Delhi cabinet approves free ride to women in buses from 29 October 2019

  • On August 29, 2019, Transport Minister of Delhi Kailash Gehlot stated that the Delhi Cabinet has approved free travel for women in Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses and cluster buses from October 29,2019.
  • The scheme, announced by chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, will be effective 29 October.

19 lakh people excluded from final list of NRC in Assam

  • Out of the 3.30 crore applicants, over 19 lakh people were excluded from the final list of National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam released.
  • Those excluded can appeal to the Foreigners Tribunal to challenge the exclusion within 120 days.
