‘Internet Saathi’ programme of Google India & Tata Trusts to be extended to Punjab and Odisha
- On July 16, 2019, Internet Saathi initiative, a collaborative programme of Google India and Tata Trusts, will be expanded to villages in Punjab and Odisha.
- The initiative aims to facilitate digital literacy among women in rural India.
- “The programme now reaches 2.6 lakh villages across 18 states and we are adding two more – Punjab and Odisha.

Palau became the 76th country to sign the International Solar Alliance (ISA) Framework Agreement
- The Republic of Palau, an island country located in the western Pacific Ocean has signed International Solar Alliance Framework agreement to become a 76th country that joined the International Solar Alliance(ISA).
- It was signed by Palau President Tommy Remengesau during a special ceremony at Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations (UN).
- ISA Framework Agreement has been ratified by a total of 54 of the 76 countries till now.

- According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index 2019, French businessman & CEO of LVMH (a merger of renowned brands Louis Vuitton and Moet Hennessy), Bernard Arnault (70) has overtaken Bill Gates as the world’s 2nd richest person.
- Louis Vuitton owner LVMH, Arnault’s luxury-goods maker, advanced to a record in Paris and pushed his net worth to $107.6 billion and ahead of Gates by more than $200 million.
- Arnault, 70, joined Gates and Amazon.com Inc founder Jeff Bezos, the world’s richest person, in the most exclusive wealth club last month, when his fortune surpassed $100 billion for the first time.

India's current account balance deficit grew to $68bn in 2018-19: IMF
- India’s current account (CA) balance deficit grew to $68 billion in 2018-19 from $49 billion the previous year, according to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which said the deficit was justified by development needs.
- The External Sector Report of the IMF released on Wednesday by Chief Economist Gita Gopinath also found that India’s Net International Investment Position had slightly improved with the deficit coming down from $438 billion in 2017-18 to $431 billion in 2018-19.

ICC suspends Zimbabwe Cricket with immediate effect
- ICC has suspended Zimbabwe Cricket with immediate effect over violation of global body’s constitution which doesn’t allow any government intervention.
- Croatia, Morocco & Zambia Cricket Union have also been suspended for continuing to be non-compliant.
- Zimbabwe Cricket will not recieve ICC funding and the country’s teams will not be allowed to participate in ICC events until the suspension is lifted.
- “We do not take the decision to suspend a Member lightly, but we must keep our sport free from political interference.

- On July 15, 2019, Madhya Pradesh got its First International Flight with the launch of a flight service to Dubai from the Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar International Airport, Indore with a national carrier Air India (Flight AI903) with 150 passengers.
- This was the first international commercial flight from Madhya Pradesh.
- The flight was flagged off by Air India chairman Ashwani Lohani along with local Parliamentarian Shankar Lalwani in the presence of former Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, among others.
