Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare launched ‘LaQshya’(Labour room Quality Improvement Initiative)

  • The Union Government has launched “LaQshya” (Labour room Quality improvement Initiative) to improve quality of care in labour room and maternity operation theatres in public health facilities and it’s a multipronged approach focused at Intrapartum and immediate postpartum period.
  • ‘LaQshya’ aims to reduce preventable maternal and newborn mortality, morbidity and stillbirths associated with the care around delivery in Labour room and Maternity Operation Theatre and ensure respectful maternity care.
  • The programme also aims to reduce maternal and newborn mortality and morbidity due to hemorrhage, retained placenta, preterm, preeclampsia and eclampsia, obstructed labour, puerperal sepsis, newborn asphyxia, and newborn sepsis.

Meghalaya is the first state in India to ensure water conservation

  • On July 12, 2019, Meghalaya became the first state in India to ensure water conservation with its State Water Policy.
  • The draft water policy was approved by the State Cabinet in a meeting chaired by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma.
  • The move came after the Meghalaya State Cabinet chaired by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma approved the draft State Water Policy.

Inflation rises marginally to 3.18% in June

  • According to the data released by the Central Statistics Office, Retail inflation increased marginally to 3.18% in June due to the rise in food prices.
  • The retail inflation based on the Consumer Price Index stood at 3.05% in May & 4.92% in June last year.
  • As per the CPI data released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO), the food inflation was 2.17 per cent in June 2019, up from 1.83 per cent in the preceding month.

Sathiyan and Amalraj pair Wins Bronze to Get India’s First Medal at Australian Open

  • Indian table tennis players, Sathiyan Gnanasekaran and Amalraj Anthony Arputharaj won India’s first ever bronze medal in men’s doubles competition at the 2019 World Tour Platinum Australian Open that held in Geelong Arena ,Geelong in Australia.
  • This was the first ever medal for India in the Australian Open.
  • The top Korean pair could not be pinned down despite being stretched in the first game. But credit must be given to the Indians who fought really well before going down.

Boxing star Vijender Singh clinched his 11th consecutive win in US professional circuit debut bout

  • Indian boxing star Vijender Singh remained an unstoppable force, clinching a Technical Knockout over the more experienced Mike Snider on his debut in the US professional circuit.
  • The triumph came in the second minute of the fourth round when Vijender cornered Snider with a flurry of straight punches, prompting the referee to stop the bout in the Indian’s favour.
  • The 38-year-old Snider was flailing his arms without any significant force in his punches for most of the bout.

Agri-Business Incubation Centre started at Raipur, Chhattisgarh

  • An Agri Business Incubation Centre has been set up by the Union Agriculture Ministry in Indira Gandhi Agriculture University of Raipur, Chhattisgarh under the National Agriculture Development Scheme Remunerative Approaches for Agriculture and Allied sector Rejuvenation (RAFTAAR).
  • The objective of the scheme is to make farming a remunerative economic activity by strengthening farmer’s effort, risk mitigation and promoting agribusiness entrepreneurship.
