Shri Manoj Sinha inaugurates the All India Heads of Police Communication Conference

  • The Minister of State for Communications (I/C) and Railways, Shri Manoj Sinha has inaugurated the All India Heads of Police Communication Conference on ‘Modernization of Police Communication and Challenges thereof’.
  • The theme of the two-day conference is “Modernization of Police Communication and Challenges thereof”.
  • The objective of the Conference is to bring all stakeholders together on one platform to address outstanding issues, share best practices, address all domains of Communication and encourage Innovation and Modernisation in the field of Communication.
  • It also provides a platform for the showcase of ‘Make In India’ and Startups to exhibit their expertise and share experiences with stakeholders to hone their skills.

Kim Jong Yang elected as Interpol President

  • Kim Jong Yang of South Korea has been elected Interpol President.
  • Kim will serve as president for the remainder of the current mandate, until 2020.
  • The decision was taken at the 87th General Assembly of the Agency in Dubai.
  • He was previously the Chief of police in South Korea’s most populous province.

Bangladesh Krida Shiksha Prothistan wins 59th edition of Subroto Cup football tournament

  • Bangladesh Krida Shiksha Prothishtan (BKSP) has won the 59th edition of the junior boys Subroto Cup International Football tournament at the Ambedkar Stadium in New Delhi.
  • BFSP defeated Amini School (Afghanistan) by a solitary goal.
  • A total of 95 teams and 1500 players participated in the tournament, including eight teams from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Nepal.

Indian gymnasts win two bronze medals in Acrobatic Gymnastics World Cup

  • Indian gymnasts won two bronze medals in the men’s and women’s group events of the FIG Acrobatic World Cup in Baku, Azerbaijan.
  • Prins Aris and Rejilesh Suribabu finished third after scoring 20.560 in the two-day event to bag the bronze medal at the National Gymnastics Arena.
  • Russian gymnasts won both the gold and silver. Germany’s Kudryashov, Aleksandr Sorokin, Valeriy Tukashvili and Kirill Zadorin were ranked first with a score of 28.336 while Pavel Gubskiy, Kirill Lukyanov, Vladimir Petrov and Denis Solun finished second after scoring 28.005.

World Fisheries day is being observed today

  • The World Fisheries Day (WFD) is being celebrated throughout the world by the fisherfolk communities to highlight the importance of maintaining the world’s fisheries.
  • The Day helps in highlighting the critical importance to human lives, of water and the lives it sustains, both in and out of the water.
  • According to Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh, the Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund of 7,522 crore rupees will augment production and create more jobs.

  • The Oscar-winning screenwriter and best-selling author William Goldman, known for “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” and “All The President’s Men”, passes away.
  • He was 87.
  • Goldman also wrote the novels and then the screenplays for Marathon Man (1976), Magic (1978) and the much-loved The Princess Bride (1987).
  • The cause of death was complications from colon cancer and pneumonia.

Himachal Pradesh Approves Sashakt Mahila Yojna

  • The Himachal Pradesh government in the cabinet meeting accorded its approval to implement Sashakt Mahila Yojna in the state with a vision to empower rural women by providing them an interface for organization and socio-economic development.
  • The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur. The scheme not only envisages to link rural women with sustainable livelihood opportunities but also to improve their skill by imparting training.

Andhra Pradesh Launches ‘Bhudaar’ Portal

  • Andhra Pradesh has launched a web portal which makes land records available to people with unique identification numbers.
  • The “Bhudaar’’ is an 11-digit unique identification code assigned to each agriculture land holding and rural and urban properties in the state.
  • Two types of Bhudaar cards are available including e-Bhudaar and M-Bhudaar.
  • The temporary Bhudaar is assigned based on valid textual data of an agriculture landholding or rural or urban property starting with 99 which indicates it is temporary Bhudaar.
  • The unique ID for permanent Bhudaar will start with 28 and if it is a government land, 28 is followed by 00.

Dr Jitendra Singh releases book Radio Kashmir in Times of Peace & War

  • Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh has released a book ‘Radio Kashmir in Times of Peace & War’ written by Dr Rajesh Bhat and published by Stellar Publishers.
  • The book explains the role played by Radio Kashmir in serving the people of Kashmir and strengthening democratic institutions in Kashmir, since the inception of Radio Kashmir in 1947.
  • Currently, Dr Rajesh Bhat is posted in the Policy Division of Directorate General, All India Radio, New Delhi.
