  • India has donated three lakh Dollars for a peacekeeping initiative at the UN.
  • The UN Department of Field Support announced that the Indian government donated the amount for the ‘Pipeline to Peacekeeping Command Programme’ with a specific focus on issues of conduct and discipline over a period of three years.

  • Michael D Higgins has been re-elected as the President of Ireland after receiving 56 percent of the country’s votes in the elections.
  • Businessman Peter Casey came second with 23.1 per cent votes.
  • Higgins, who has served as the country’s head of state since 2011, will now keep the top job for another seven years.
  • Higgins is the first incumbent in 50 years to face a challenge in the bid for a second term.

  • Far-right candidate Jair Bolsonaro has won a sweeping victory in Brazil’s presidential election.
  • Bolsonaro won 55.2% of the votes cast against 44.8% for Fernando Haddad from the left-wing Workers’ Party.
  • Bolsonaro campaigned on a promise to eradicate corruption and to drive down Brazil’s high crime levels.
  • His campaign slogan was “Brazil above everything, God above everyone”.

Ayhika Mukherjee wins silver medal at Under-21 Belgium Table Tennis Open

  • Indian table tennis player Ayhika Mukherjee won the silver medal in ITTF Challenge Belgium Open 2018 in Under-21 women’s singles category.
  • She lost 1-3 to Korea’s Youjin Kim in the final.
  • Anthony Amalraj and Sanil Shetty bagged a bronze in the men’s doubles.

Roger Federer Won 99th Career Title In His Hometown

  • Swiss tennis star Roger Federer won his 99th career title after winning the Basel Open for the ninth time in his career.
  • Federer, who was born in the Swiss city of Basel, won his fourth title of the year in the form of the Basel Open.
  • Federer is now just 10 titles short of the all-time record holder Jimmy Connors, who leads with 109.

Indian Golfer Khalin Joshi Clinches Panasonic Open India Title

  • Indian golfer Khalin Joshi clinched the Panasonic Open India title at the Delhi Golf Club.
  • With this win, Joshi became the seventh Indian to win the Panasonic Open India title in the last eight editions of the tournament.
  • It was also his maiden Asian Tour title.
  • Overnight joint leader Joshi carded four under 68 on the final day to win the title by one stroke with a four day aggregate of 17-under.
  • Bangladesh’s Siddikur Rahman finished second best after finishing with a par on the 18th.

Former Delhi CM Madan Lal Khurana passes away

  • Former Chief Minister of Delhi Madan Lal Khurana passed away on 27 Oct in Delhi at the age of 83.
  • Khurana served as Delhi’s CM from 1993 to 1996.
  • He also served as the Governor of Rajasthan in 2006.
  • Khurana was a part of the Jana Sangh, which later became BJP.

Unique Ro-Pax ferry service between Ghogha, Dahej launched

  • The “Ro-Pax” (roll on/off-passenger) ferry service connecting Ghogha in Saurashtra and Dahej in south Gujarat through the Gulf of Cambay was launched on 28 Oct by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.
  • These ships are vessels to carry wheeled cargo such as truck, cars, motorcycles, etc. The wheeled cargo can load on the vessel on their own and unload also on their own.
  • The Ro-Pax ferry at Ghogha can carry 60 trucks, 5 to 7 buses, 35-40 cars and 50 bikes in addition to 525 passengers.
  • This ferry service is being operated by Indigo Seaways Pvt Ltd.

Braille-enabled EVMs, voter slips for the first time in Rajasthan

  • In a first, all the polling booths across Rajasthan will be equipped with braille enabled Electronic Voting Machine (EVM), so visually impaired people can also vote in the Assembly election 2018.
  • Notably, there are around 72, 694 are visually impaired voters in the state.
  • The polling in the state for Assembly elections 2018 will take place on November 28, whereas the counting of votes will happen on December 11, alongside results of the other four states, namely, Mizoram, Chhatisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Telangana.
