Fuzhou (China) to host 2020 session of World Heritage Committee

  • The city of Fuzhou (China) will host the next session of the World Heritage Committee in 2020.
  • This decision concluded the work of the 43rd session of the World Heritage Committee, meeting in Baku.
  • The committee, first convened in Paris in 1977, is tasked with formally elevating sites of cultural, historical, and natural importance to its independently maintained World Heritage Site list, which as of last week’s session includes 1,121 sites in 167 countries.

Indian ship sails for Narayanganj in Bangladesh carrying cargo from Bhutan

  • An Indian Inland Waterways Authority ship on Saturday headed towards Narayanganj river port in Bangladesh carrying cargo from Bhutan.
  • The first ship carrying 1,000 tonnes of crushed stones from Bhutan started its journey from Dhubri river port in Assam and will travel to Narayanganj in Bangladesh, over river Brahmaputra and the Indo-Bangladesh Protocol Route, according to Indian shipping ministry officials.
  • Transport of cargo through this route will cut short travel time by 8 to 10 days, and reduce transportation cost by 30 per cent, bringing down logistics costs.

  • India’s ambitious moon mission, Chandrayaan-2 has been called off due to a technical snag in just 56 minutes and 24 seconds before its scheduled launch.
  • Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) confirmed that the launch had been canceled after a technical snag was detected in one of the launch systems of the GSLVMkIII-M1 (Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle Mark III).
  • The mission was aimed at putting a rover on the moon’s South Pole, where no country has gone before.

Fernando Corbato, the inventor of computer password passed away at 93

  • The computer industry has lost another great scientist who helped to discover computer Password.
  • Fernando Corbato, who is famous for inventing computer password, also an MIT researcher, has died at the age of 93.
  • Throughout his lifetime he has worked on various things, and one can say that his contribution to the computer industry is never going to forget.
  • When he was an MIT researcher, he was trying to build a Compatible time-sharing system which would allow multiple users to use a single computer and that’s when he discovered the concept of Computer Password.

Veteran Malayalam cinematographer M J Radhakrishnan passed away in Trivandrum (Thiruvananthapuram), Kerala

  • On July 12, 2019, Malayalam cinematographer M J Radhakrishnan passed away at the age of 60 in Trivandrum (Thiruvananthapuram), Kerala due to cardiac arrest.
  • He hailed from Punalur, Kerala.
  • He won seven State Film Awards – only Mankada Ravi Varma has won as many. In a career that spanned over four decades, he worked in about 70 films.
