  • On September 10, 2019, Thailand became the first Asian nation to unveil plain cigarette packaging to reduce the appeal of smoking and complied with the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) guidelines.
  • The standardized packaging includes a graphic picture of tobacco’s effects on the body and the logo-free brand name written in plain font.

CBDT launches one-time facility for compounding of income tax offences

  • CBDT launched one-time facility to apply for compounding of income tax offences ,taxpayers can avail this opportunity by Dec 31.
  • A taxpayer will have to file an application for compounding a tax offence before the competent authority to avail this.

Telangana governor Tamilisai becomes the youngest governor at 58years while Andhra governor Harichandan becomes the oldest at 85

  • On September 8, 2019 former TamilNadu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan who was sworn in as the first woman governor of Telangana, became the youngest state governor at the age of 58 among all the current governors.

  • Pramod Kumar Mishra, aged 71, was appointed as the new principal secretary to Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi succeeding Nripendra Misra with effect from September 11, 2019.

DRDO successfully flight-tests indigenously developed MPATGM

India to receive first of 36 Rafale fighter jets from France on Oct 8

  • India is set to receive the first of 36 Rafale fighter jets in Paris on October 8(foundation day of IAF).
  • India signed an inter-governmental agreement with France in Sep, 2016 for procurement of 36 Rafale fighter jets at a cost of around Rs 58,000 crore.

MP govt. to offer cows for online adoption

  • On September 10, 2019 the Madhya Pradesh (MP) govt. announced to launch online service for cow adoption and shed provisions under the MP govt’s initiative “Project Gaushala”at Gaushalas(cow shelters).
  • In this project a cow can be adopted for a minimum period of 15days.
