  • The Gaming zone was inaugurated at platform number 1.

India extends $1 mn aid to Bahamas

  • India government announced its decision to extend a relief of $1 million to the Bahamas which is facing the wrath of Hurricane Dorian, a category 5 hurricanes with winds reaching 295 km/h.
  • Dorian, which ravaged the Bahamas as a Category 5 hurricane, wreaked havoc in the island country, uprooting trees, destroying communication lines and flattening houses, rendering hundreds of people homeless.

Tenure of Pakistan’s army chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa extended for 3 years

  • The term of Pakistan’s army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa has been extended for a period of three years.
  • The announcement stated that the move had been taken taking into view the security environment in the subcontinent.

Duracell Set to Buy Eveready Industries for Rs 1,600-1,700 crore

  • US-based Duracell Inc. is set to buy Eveready Industries’ battery and flashlight business in a slump sale for Rs 1,600-1,700 crore.
  • The all-cash deal includes the manufacturing plants, distribution network and the Eveready brand.

RBI selects Daffodil Software Pvt Ltd for developing mobile app for visually impaired

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) selected Daffodil Software Pvt Ltd to develop a mobile phone-based application for visually impaired people to identify currency notes.
  • It informed the Bombay High Court that an internet connection would not be required for its proposed mobile application.

  • Charles Leclerc ended Ferrari’s nine-year wait for victory at the Italian Grand Prix as he led from pole to take his second win in as many weeks.
  • The 21-year-old Monegasque driver held off fierce competition from Mercedes pair Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton to seal the win, backing up his first Formula 1 victory at the Belgian Grand Prix.

US Open final: Bianca Andreescu beats Serena Williams

  • 19-yr old Canadian Bianca Andreescu upset Serena Williams 6-3, 7-5 in the U.S. Open final for her first Grand Slam title.
  • This is 2nd year in a row that Williams has lost in the U.S. Open final. Andreescu is 1st woman to win the U.S. Open in US Open debut.

  • Ram Jethmalani, Senior lawyer, and a former union law minister has passed away at his home in Delhi after suffering from prolonged illness.
  • He was 95.

Justice Vikram Nath Appointed as Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court

  • President of India has appointed Justice Vikram Nath as Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court upon Collegium’s recommendation, which had previously recommended Justice Nath as Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court.
  • Fifty-six-year-old Justice Nath, who obtained a law degree in 1986, enrolled himself as a practising lawyer in Allahabad in March 1987.
