• The focus of WOSA 2018 is on “Challenges And Opportunities In Outcome Based Accreditation”. HRD minister Prakash Javadekar inaugurates this event.

The United Nations Postal Administration will issue special stamps in New York

• The United Nations Postal Administration will issue special stamps in New York in October to commemorate the Diwali festival.
• The postal agency of United Nations (UN) will issue a New York special event sheet on the 19th of October to commemorate the festival. The sheet in the denomination of USD 1.15 contains ten stamps and tabs featuring festive lights and the symbolic lamps known as ‘diyas’.

Ankur Mittal won gold medal the ISSF World Championship

• Ankur Mittal claimed the men’s double trap gold medal in the ISSF World Championship for his career’s biggest triumph, as the Indian shooting team continued its dominance in the premier tournament in Changwon, South Korea.
• Ankur also won the team bronze in the event along with compatriots Md. Asab and Shardul Vihaan, their tally of 409 points putting them behind China’s 410 and the gold-winning team Italy’s tally of 411.

'Hazratganj Chauraha' of Lucknow will be Atal Chowk

• In Uttar Pradesh, the Iconic ‘Hazratganj Chauraha’ of Lucknow city will be renamed after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee as ‘Atal Chowk’.
• State Government has also announced to convert Vajpayee’s ancestral house in Bateshwar, Agra into a memorial and develop a tourist circuit there.

The Maharashtra government has laid down fines on open defecation, littering, and spitting

• The Maharashtra government has laid down fines ranging from Rs. 500 to Rs. 150 to curb the menace of open defecation, littering, and spitting in public.
• The offence of open defecation would invite a fine of Rs. 500 while that for throwing garbage and spitting in public would be Rs.180 and Rs. 150 respectively. The fine amount has been levied as per categorisation of areas into classes A, B C and D.
