EC announces polls schedule for five States
- The Election Commission of India (EC) on 06 Oct announced the schedule for upcoming Assembly elections in five states.
- The 5 states where election will be held are: Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Chattisgarh and Mizoram.
- While Chhattisgarh will have two-phase elections, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Rajasthan and Telangana will have single phase election.

Vishwakarma, Mahak wins National tennis titles
India’s Keerthana Pandian Wins Girls’ Title In IBSF World U-16 Snooker Championships
- India’s Keerthana Pandian has won the girls’ title in the IBSF World Under-16 Snooker Championships.
- In the final in St Petersburg, Russia, Keerthana outclassed her Belarussian rival Albina Leschuk 3-1.
- It is the Indian girl’s maiden international crown. In the corresponding boys category, Ben Martens of Belgium won the title.

World Space Week: (4-10 October)
- World Space Week (WSW) is an annually observed from 4–10 October in various parts of the world, including Europe and Asia.
- World Space Week is officially defined as “an international celebration of science and technology, and their contribution to the betterment of the human condition.”
- On December 6, 1999, The United Nations General Assembly declared World Space Week as an annual event celebration to be commemorated between October 4–10.
- The choice of dates was based on recognition of two important dates in space history: the launch of the first human-made Earth satellite, Sputnik 1, on October 4, 1957; and the signing of the Outer Space Treaty on October 10, 1967.
Japan military joins historic Philippine war games
- Japan joined for the first time joint military exercise with USA and Philippines.
- It is said the first time Tokyo’s armoured vehicles rolled on foreign soil since World War II.
- The small Japanese contingent played a humanitarian support role in the drill.
- The exercise was held at a Philippine navy base facing the South China Sea about 250km from the Scarborough Shoal, a territory claimed by Manila that was seized by China during a 2012 naval stand-off.
'Nagaland's Gandhi' Natwar Thakkar Dies In Assam
- Eminent Gandhian Natwar Thakkar, popularly known as Nagaland’s Gandhi, died in a private hospital after a brief illness.
- He was 86. Mr. Thakkar, a Padma Shri awardee, had founded the Nagaland Gandhi Ashram at Chuchuyimlang.
- His efforts to spread Gandhian philosophy and peace had earned him the sobriquet ‘Nagaland’s Gandhi’.
- He was from Maharashtra and had made Nagaland his home ever since he had arrived in the State in 1955.
Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference of Indian Region begins
- The Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference of India Region, Zone III was conducted in Guwahati.
- Women empowerment, Skill development, connectivity were some of the topics discussed during the conference.
- The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) organises its annual Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC) each year.
Atal Innovation Mission & SIRIUS Sign MoU
- To promote innovative cooperation between students of India and Russia, an MoU was exchanged between India’s Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) and the Russian Federation’s SIRIUS Educational Foundation in the presence of the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and the President of Russia Vladimir Putin, in New Delhi.
- The AIM and SIRUS Education Foundation were represented by Mission Director Shri. R Ramanan and Ms. Elena Shmeleva respectively.
