Centre to repeal of Article 370 and 35A that grants special status to J&K

  • On August 5, 2019, Government announced to repeal Article 370 [except the first clause 370 (1)] and Article 35A which grants special status to Jammu and Kashmir (J&K).
  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah introduced the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Bill, 2019 in Rajya Sabha which seeks to bifurcate the state of Jammu and Kashmir into 2 Union territories – J&K a Union Territory with Legislature, and Ladakh Union Territory without Legislature.

Road transport and highways ministry exempts armed force’s armoured, specialised vehicles from BS-VI emission norms.

  • The government on Friday said it has exempted the armoured and other specialised vehicles of Indian armed and paramilitary forces from the vehicular emission norms BS-VI that will come into force from April 1, 2020.
  • Issuing a notification, the road transport and highways ministry has also granted exemption to these vehicles from BS-IV compliance.

Bill to increase number of SC judges passed in Lok Sabha

RBI slaps ₹8.50-cr fine on 11 banks

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a collective penalty of Rs 8.5 crore on eleven commercial banks for violating norms on fraud classification and reporting by commercial banks and selected financial institutions (FIs).
  • While the RBI imposed a fine of Rs 1.5 crore on Oriental Bank of Commerce, it slapped a fine of Rs 1 crore each on Indian Overseas Bank, Punjab & Sind Bank, UCO Bank and United Bank of India.
