Centre to repeal of Article 370 and 35A that grants special status to J&K
- On August 5, 2019, Government announced to repeal Article 370 [except the first clause 370 (1)] and Article 35A which grants special status to Jammu and Kashmir (J&K).
- Union Home Minister Amit Shah introduced the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Bill, 2019 in Rajya Sabha which seeks to bifurcate the state of Jammu and Kashmir into 2 Union territories – J&K a Union Territory with Legislature, and Ladakh Union Territory without Legislature.

Road transport and highways ministry exempts armed force’s armoured, specialised vehicles from BS-VI emission norms.
- The government on Friday said it has exempted the armoured and other specialised vehicles of Indian armed and paramilitary forces from the vehicular emission norms BS-VI that will come into force from April 1, 2020.
- Issuing a notification, the road transport and highways ministry has also granted exemption to these vehicles from BS-IV compliance.

Bill to increase number of SC judges passed in Lok Sabha
- Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha that proposes an increase in the number of judges in Supreme Court from 30 to 33 excluding the Chief Justice.
- It seeks to address the rising pendency of cases in the apex court.

RBI slaps ₹8.50-cr fine on 11 banks
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a collective penalty of Rs 8.5 crore on eleven commercial banks for violating norms on fraud classification and reporting by commercial banks and selected financial institutions (FIs).
- While the RBI imposed a fine of Rs 1.5 crore on Oriental Bank of Commerce, it slapped a fine of Rs 1 crore each on Indian Overseas Bank, Punjab & Sind Bank, UCO Bank and United Bank of India.

- Dwayne Johnson, popularly known as ‘The Rock’, has officially announced his retirement from World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).
- The wrestler-turned-Hollywood star said that he ‘quietly retired’ from WWE, but at the same time did not rule out the possibility of a comeback in future.
- This is the first time that the professional wrestler admitted to retiring from the sport.
