The Centre bans Jamat-e-Islami J&K for 5 years

  • The Centre has banned the Jamat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir (JIJK) for five years.
  • The Jamaat is in close touch with terror outfits and is supporting extremism and terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir and elsewhere.
  • The notification comes barely a few days after the Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested around 100 cadres of the group in the state.

PM Modi launches Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Mandhan Yojana in Gujarat

  • Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Mandhan Yojana at Gandhinagar in Gujarat.
  • The national pension scheme for workers and labourers of the unorganised sector was announced in the Interim Budget in February this year.
  • Under the scheme, a monthly pension of Rs. 3,000 per month is provided to workers in the unorganised sector over 60 years of age.
  • The scheme will benefit 10 crore workers in the unorganised sector.
  • PM Modi also launched the indigenously-developed National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) ‘One Nation One Card’ to enable people to pay multiple kinds of transport charges, including metro services and toll tax, across the country.

Russia suspends participation in Intermediate-Range Nuclear treaty with US

  • Russian President Vladimir Putin has officially suspended the country’s participation in a key Cold War-era nuclear arms-control treaty with the United States.
  • Putin signed a decree regarding the suspension of Russia’s participation in the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces, INF treaty between the USSR and the US in 1987.
  • The move was taken following a violation of the United States of its obligations under the treaty.
  • Earlier, Both Countries have accused one another of breaching the INF treaty.

DRDO Chairman wins Missile Systems Award

  • DRDO Chairman ‘Satheesh Reddy’ has been chosen by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) as the co-winner of the 2019 Missile Systems Award.
  • American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) has chosen ‘Satheesh Reddy’ (DRDO Chairman and Secretary of India’s Department of Defence R&D) as the co-winner of the 2019 Missile Systems Award.
  • The other co-winner is Rondell J. Wilson who is a former Principal Engineering Fellow of Raytheon Missile Systems.
  • Satheesh Reddy is the first person to be honoured with this award outside the USA in 40 years.

Randhir Singh appointed as chairman of Hangzhou Asian games

  • Veteran Indian sports administrator Randhir Singh was appointed as the chairman of the Coordination Committee of the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games by the General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia.
  • Beverage major Coca-Cola India appointed Nishi Kulshreshtha Chaturvedi as Vice President, Human Resources, India and South West Asia.

ISRO launched Young Scientist Programme

  • ISRO launched a special programme for School Children called “Young Scientist Programme” “YUva VIgyani KAryakram” (युविका).
  • It is primarily aimed at imparting basic knowledge on Space Technology, Space Science and Space Applications to the younger ones.
  • It will be of around two weeks duration during summer holidays and students of the 9th standard is eligible for it.

American actor Luke Perry passes away in California

  • American actor Luke Perry (52-years) passed away in California, U.S.
  • He became a teen idol for playing Dylan McKay on the TV series Beverly Hills, 90210 from 1990 to 1995, and again from 1998 to 2000.
  • From 2017 until his death, Perry starred as Frederick “Fred” Andrews, Archie’s father, on the CW series Riverdale.

Haryana Govt. announces Mukhyamantri Parivar Samman Nidhi Scheme

  • Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has launched ‘Mukhyamantri Parivar Samman Nidhi’ scheme in Chandigarh.
  • Farmers of the state who cultivate on land with areas up to 5 acres and the families with an income of less than Rs. 15,000 per month.
  • The scheme would provide a sum of Rs. 6,000 yearly, each family must nominate a member who will be provided with this amount.
  • The scheme involves two categories of beneficiaries-in the age group of (18 to 40 years) and (40 to 60 years).
  • The scheme provides insurance facilities of Rs. 2 lakhs on natural death, Rs. 2 lakhs for accidental death, Rs. 2 lakhs for permanent disability and Rs. 1 lakh for partial disability

Assam’s Hailakandi Became the Top Aspirational District

  • According to the Delta ranking report released by NITI Aayog, Assam’s Hailakandi has become the top aspirational district among the 112 aspirational districts of the country.
  • Hailakandi in Assam has made a giant leap from 52nd position to no. 1 position on the basis of its performance during November-December 2018 and January 2019.
  • For securing the first rank as an aspirational district, Hailakandi will be given an allocation of Rs. 10 crores.

Azadi Ke Diwane museum inaugurated

  • Minister of State for Culture and Environment, Dr. Mahesh Sharma inaugurated ‘AzaadikeDiwane’ museum at Red Fort, Delhi on 5 March 2019.
  • It is created by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and pays homage to all unsung heroes of freedom struggle of the nation.
  • The museum is 5th in the series of recently inaugurated museums in the Red Fort Complex including Subhash Chandra Bose museum.
