National Road Safety Week launched today
- The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has launched the National Road Safety Week with a host of initiatives planned for generating awareness and sensitizing people about safe road usage.
- The Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari flag off a motor car rally to commemorate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti, Rajghat, New Delhi.
- The rally will travel through places historically associated with Gandhiji, both in India, as well as in Bangladesh and Myanmar.
- It will conclude at Yangon in Myanmar on the 24th of this month, covering a total distance of 7250 km.

President Opens Rashtrapati Bhavan's annual 'Udyanotsav'
- Today, President ‘Ram Nath Kovind’ has opened the annual Udyanotsav of Rashtrapati Bhavan.
- About 10,000 programmed Tulip bulbs in 8 varieties of different colour were imported from the Netherlands and have been planted in the Mughal Gardens.
- The people will also be able to visit the Spiritual Garden, Herbal Garden, Bonsai Garden and Musical Garden.

Smriti Mandhana Becomes World No.1 Women’s ODI Batter
- Indian women’s cricket team opener Smriti Mandhana has become the top-ranked batter in women’s ODI cricket, as per the latest rankings released by the ICC.
- The 22-year-old moved up three spots in the batters’ rankings to reach the top spot. In the 15 ODIs Smriti has played since the beginning of 2018, she has scored two centuries and eight half-centuries.

Sana Mir Becomes 1st Asian Woman to Play 100 T20Is
- Former captain of the Pakistan women team Sana Mir has become the first Asian woman to play hundred T20Is.
- Mir, 33, is one of Pakistan’s most senior women cricketers and has been representing the country since 2005.
- She achieved the feat when she took the field against West Indies in the third and final T20I in Karachi.
- The top-ranked ODI bowler and seasoned all-rounder was delighted ahead of achieving the landmark.
Aribam Shyam returns Padma award in protest
- Noted Manipuri filmmaker Aribam Shyam Sharma returned his Padma Shri Award on February 3, 2019.
- He received the award in 2006 and returned it to mark a protest against the Citizen (Amendment) Bill.
- Sharma is a recipient of several national awards for his films Sangai, Ishanou, Imagi Ningthe, etc.

Nilambar Acharya appointed Country’s ambassador to India
- Former Nepal’s law minister Nilambar Acharya has been appointed as the Country’s Ambassador to India.
- Acharya was Law Minister in the interim government (in 1990).
- Earlier, Mr Acharya has been served as a member of Eminent Persons Group formed by India and Nepal on bilateral relations.

World Cancer day being observed today
- The world cancer day is being observed on 4th February every year to raise awareness about cancer, its treatment and to encourage methods of its prevention.
- The primary goal of the day is to reduce the illness and related deaths by 2020.
- This year, Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) is launching a new three years (2019-2021) campaign with the theme: “I Am and I Will.”
- The Union Government has started AMRIT scheme in order to provide relief to poor people from the rising cost of Cancer drugs.

New Andhra Pradesh High Court inaugurated
- New building of the Andhra Pradesh High Court was inaugurated by CJI Ranjan Gogoi at Amravathy on February 3, 2019.
- The 2-storied building has a building cost of Rs. 150 crore, 16 court halls, and houses 2.70 lakh square feet office space.
- Andhra Pradesh has finally got its own court after four and a half years of state bifurcation.
